Energy Star Certified Homes

ENERGY STAR Homes was created by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to reduce residential energy consumption. To qualify for an ENERGY STAR rating, a home must use at least 30% less energy than outlined by the U.S. Department of Energy in the Model Energy Code. Our SIPS system homes use an average of 50% less energy than conventionally framed homes. Residential energy use constitutes 20 percent of all U.S. carbon dioxide air pollution. It also accounts for 26 percent of sulfur dioxide and 15 percent of nitrogen oxide emissions. The ENERGY STAR Homes program provides builders and homeowners with incentives to build more energy efficient homes. Incentives for homeowners include EEMs (energy efficient mortgages) and higher home resale value. Many utility companies offer up to $1,500 rebates to builders who utilize energy efficient construction methods. The result is a healthier living environment and savings for everyone.

Project Profile: Redlin Art Center

The Redlin Art Center showcases the paintings of world-renowned wildlife artist Terry Redlin. The architect, Chuck Redlin, chose SIPs because panels prevent air infiltration, which is an important factor in preserving the Redlin paintings. "From the time I proposed a wood to steel structure, I knew I was going to use structural insulated panels for curtain wall framing," said Redlin. "SIPs are a wonderful way to insulate the structure and to tie the steel framing system to create a rigid final building."
